Happy early Valentine's Day!

I have a friend Donna, who I've taken lettering classes with over the years. A few years ago she showed me a small exhibition catalog of painted letters by German artist, Adolph Bernd. She'd bought the book from a wonderful calligrapher and teacher, Peter Thornton, who was one of the curators of the exhibition. Once I laid eyes on those images I knew I wanted to know more. Not long after that, we took Thornton's class on Bernd with the Birmingham Calligraphy Guild in Alabama. It was a revelation on how to approach illustrating type. I learned so much, and time with a great friend is always wonderful.
